Video Analysis. VITAL!

Training methods change with the times and in sports it's no different.  Coaches train players by showing them how strokes look by using their own mechanics.  They also use the sense of hearing by describing strokes step by step.  Some coaches will take it another step and show players the mechanics of strokes through video of professionals or top level players.  The best coaches are able to combine all of these tactics and use every sense that the player has to maximize their potential of acquiring the skill to hit the best possible shot.

Video analysis has existed ever since a video camera was invented.  Coaches in all sports have used it to analyse mechanics, tactics, and opponents.  The technology in tennis has moved to the point where coaches can literally take their mobile devices on the court, tape players frame by frame, analyse their technique and put their mobile device back in their pocket.  I wish we had a time machine and explain this to coaches 10-15 years ago.  They would have looked at anyone making that claim  that as a lunatic.  Today I am lucky enough to have the technology that can tap into the visual and audio world of my players.  I have seen the success curve rise dramatically as players are able to see THEMSELVES in action and are able to envision changes that the coach suggests.

Take a look at the various videos I have embedded on this post.  I am able to take video of my players on court and show them instantaneously.  Another option I have is to take the video, take it home, do a voice-over and then send it to them (via YouTube, text or email.  How cool?!)  Players are able to take these videos, see themselves in action, hear the coach's analysis and from there apply the necessary changes into their game.  What I have done with my players is right after their video session I send them a text with the video analysis and have them look at it and focus on it before the next practice.  This allows the information to be taken in, marinate, and cook to a sizzle of results.

Take a look at Coach's Eye as a great tool to use for your player's success.  This was introduced to me and there is no looking back at the old technology out there.  Our players have received and have seen the benefits of this technology.
